LGI Canberra Landfill Gas to Energy Plant

Landfill Gas Industries (LGI) specialises in converting landfill gas into clean energy. Developing power generation solutions for landfill owners and operators throughout Australia, LGI has delivered landfill gas installations for a diverse range of sites. The services that LGI provides includes gas extraction, flaring and monitoring, design, supply, and installation of systems.

CV was contracted by LGI to deliver a new 4.2MW landfill gas to energy plant, located in Mugga Lane, ACT. The plant captures landfill gas and is able to power more than 5,700 homes with green energy, over 1,000 additional homes than the previous plant.

The facility provides a significant source of renewable energy through the four power generators which have the capacity to produce 34,900 megawatts per year. At the same time, the plant also works to reduce landfill related greenhouse gas emissions, cutting them by 120,000 tonnes each year.

For the new plant, the CV Infrastructure team provided the following services to LGI:

  • Design
  • Supply and installation of HV & LV cabling
  • Testing
  • Network switching
  • Commissioning

LGI was proud of the delivery this project, despite significant challenges and delays caused by bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic.
